Subject: Cross Country Trip – Wrap Up

October 28, 2021: Trip Stats
No weekly post cause I’M HOME HOLY SHIT. Here’s a map of my trip and some stats for you nerds: 13,850 miles driven. 10 months = 41 weeks = 287 days on the road. 26 cities hit across 20 states. Tomorrow I’ll be answering in detail – Just how expensive is a trip like this?

October 29, 2021: Cost Analysis
Alright nerds, if you want to know what a solo cross country trip costs, here’s your answer. I meticulously tracked all expenses, down to $1 parking meters. Before I get into it, I must acknowledge that I am very fortunate that I was able to work while traveling. But getting on with it: It’s expensive! But it could be done cheaper. The biggest expense is housing – due to my work I was required to rent entire apartments to myself, rather than getting private bedrooms in shared houses which are much cheaper. I also could have cut back a lot on dining out and alcohol, but hey, I wanted to live it up 😉 You can see the cost of living rise as I hit the west coast in the later months.

October 30, 2021: Reflection
Some thoughts on my trip: I was blown away by how gorgeous America is. We have almost every kind of climate or landscape that you could possibly want smushed into one country. I think it’s easy to romanticize other countries but we forget how special our own is. Each place you go has its own unique culture but they are united by a common goal: everyone wants to make the best of the life they were given. The countryside of America sprawls farther than description. It forms a world and reality completely separate from that of the cities. People live entirely different lives with entirely different problems. It’s no wonder conservatives and liberals are at odds; solutions needed in the cities are often useless to the countryside and vice versa. I made a lot of conservative friends along the way and have learned to sympathize with their struggles that are often dismissed and overlooked. Remember that extremists are the fringe of society. Most people, no matter where they fall on the political spectrum, are reasonable, good, and merely trying to pursue their own happiness.

BTW, I’m moving to Denver. I guess I should tell people that.

And now that I’m back I’m deleting all my social media apps. I’m not deleting the accounts but I won’t be posting to FB anymore. I am tired of the wasted time, the ads, the whining, the drama, the self-righteous anger with complete lack of action. We are better than this. I’ll be out kicking ass in the real world. Peace! ✌️
